I genuinely thought solar would ruin the roof… which is why I took my time with this decision.

Sustainability and future bills mattered to us, but so did how the house would actually look. The roof changes everything, so I needed to see it properly — samples, showrooms and real houses, all of it.

That’s how I ended up speaking to @smartlysolar about bespoke options. They specialise in custom solar roofs, and that worked for me with having a part tiled roof, they’re family-run, UK-wide award winning installer, and do everything from small residential projects to much larger builds and commercial projects too — which gave me a lot of confidence early on.

They introduced me to a 2-in-1 metal roof with solar built straight in, so it blends seamlessly with the rest of the roof.

We’ve used the 2-in-1 system on the extension, and tiles on the rest of the house, which kept things flexible and worked for our budget too.

Seeing the roof nearly finished now, I’m really glad I didn’t rush this one and chose carefully for the type of roof and the installer. I’ll share more soon about how having solar will actually help with our energy bills shortly too as I needed the facts like I’m sure you would too x

I love that it’s such a feature but in the right way. What do you think? X

A fab alternative for a tighter budget!
When I saw this from Marksand Spencer’s I couldn’t believe the similarities to my @neptunehomeofficial lamp! I will say though both are absolutely gorgeous but as with lots of dupes the main difference is the size and I think that’s why the Neptune lamp is so much more as it’s bigger But saying that a fantastic option if your budget doesn’t stretch that far. Plus you can get co-ordinated extra pieces that work so well together too. Let me know what you think! I’ll link them on LTK for you and a few other pieces I love too x

For me, it calms me❤️
I like to add textures, organic shapes and touches of colour but it’s a place I immediately come home to and feel at ease. Patterned cushions, soft lighting and cosy fires and it feels like home-warm and inviting.
I appreciate how other people do lots of colour in their home, I follow so many accounts that use colour everywhere but for me a neutral base is where I always like to start. I’ll be doing the same on the next home but I’ll be adding more natural materials and more earthy colours and tones. This place though always gives me a warm hug when I walk through the door and I love that x

#Ad Sometimes we talk so much about renovations (🙋‍♀️ guilty!) that it’s easy to forget there are other really good options out there.
New builds today are being designed with energy efficiency in mind from the very start — better insulation, modern argon glazing, low-carbon heating and features that can help keep bills lower long-term.
And there’s definitely something appealing about moving into a home that’s finished, calm and ready from day one — especially if renovation isn’t the right fit for your season of life.
This has reminded me that there isn’t one “right” way to buy a home. Renovations can be amazing… and for lots of people, a new build simply makes more sense.
