Speaking from my own experience as a new build owner, I’ve watched neighbours prioritise paved space over plants over and over again.

Whilst paved space has a place in the garden it shouldn’t be all the garden is. Firstly, I think people are keen to get somewhere to sit when the sun comes out - great, but do you really want to just stare at the grass and fences? Probably not.

But secondly, we have a huge opportunity in these tiny spaces to make a big impact on our wildlife. To provide nectar to the bees, food for birds and create havens.

It doesn’t have to be perfect, or all happen at once. Even a small bed full of plants + a couple of trees can make all the difference.

I’m here to tell you that actually, maybe it’s better if you do it slowly, in stages, over the years. It isn’t a room in a house that needs a lick of paint, it’s a space that needs time to mature.

I think we’re all so used to seeing entire transformations on the internet that we forget that it’s okay to take our time in some spaces 🫶🌱

Being online has taught us that everything is an instant transformation, but the garden serves as this incredible purpose to slow down & enjoy the process.

I think, especially with new build gardens we see a blank slate and either get overwhelmed and ignore it or rush to make a complete decision in one go.

Gardens grow, and so does your ideas, and knowledge. So maybe it’s time to remember doing things in stages is normal and a good thing.
